As I explained on my Daytona CS page, Dodge's Competition package featured all the special handling bits and go-fast goodies of the high-zoot model but could be added only to a base model car. The Competition package was clearly intended for buyers seeking maximum performance; a car so optioned would outhandle and outaccelerate a comparably-engined (but heavier) flagship model with all of its additional "unnecessary" equipment.
It should be no surprise, then, to know that Dodge offered a Competition package for the Shadow. Available only on the base model coupe, this was a way to quickly specify all the hardware for top performance and little else. Production lasted just two model years: 1989 and 1990.
All the go-fast hardware was along for the ride: the 2.5L TurboI engine, a 5-speed manual transmission (no automatic was offered with this package), 15-inch pumper wheels wearing 195/60HR all-season performance tires, firm feel power steering, the Special Sport Suspension with front and rear swaybars, Ultra High Performance 4-wheel disc brakes, performance exhaust system, boost gauge, and a rear decklid spoiler.
On the outside there was no fluff to be found. There were no sideskirts or fog lights; those were reserved for the heavier Shadow ES. The usual turbo decal was applied to the hood buldge and the rear spoiler remained.
1989 production totaled 300 cars.
For the new model year there were two main hardware differences. First, the intercooled VNT (TurboIV) engine was now the standard powerplant; second, it was bundled exclusively with the A568 heavy-duty 5-speed transmission. Just as in 1989, no automatic was available. Other than these two upgrades, all other hardware remained as it had been. On the outside of the car, the hood buldge decal now read 'Intercooled VNT'.

1990 production was a scant 30 cars.
